Stretching, I smiled as the sun beat down on my face. Sleeping with the windows and balcony doors open allowed the wind to breeze through my room and provide some of the best sleep I’ve had in months. Jamaica owed me nothing. It gave me what I needed. A place of refuge and cleansing.

Turning over, I screamed at the top of lungs. Scooting back from being startled, I fell out the bed and landed on the cold wood floors. “Damnit, Kellon,” I screeched as I hopped up holding my chest. He laid there staring at me saying nothing, but his eyes said plenty.

Reaching for my kimono, I wrapped it around my body and crossed my arms across my chest. “What are you doing here?”

Moving the sheets to the side, he stood up revealing that he had on grey sweats with no shirt. “You sleep too hard, Lilah. I don’t like that I came into your room and laid next to you without you budging.” He frowned as he put his shirt on and slid his feet in his slides.

My mouth watered as I took him in. He scared the shit out of me, but he did so looking edible. Clearing my throat, I repeated myself. “Why are you here?”

He sat down on the edge of the bed and chuckled. “Yo, you ain’t in no position to question me about anything. Put some clothes on so we can go.” He nodded his head towards the sweat suit and shoes laid out on the dresser.

Looking around the room, I noticed my bags were packed by the door. I opened my mouth to speak, but he shut me up with the look on his face. I knew he was pissed. The fact that he came to Jamaica two days after I promised I would be home proved it.

“Woody is gone already.” He stood and walked past me to the balcony. “You out here living your best life while I’m home trying to bond with my son, but I can’t because I’m worried about you. I don’t appreciate the shit you pulled, Lilah. Let this be the last time you pull a stunt like this.”

I nodded even though his back faced me. Putting on my clothes, I made sure to watch him. He would never hurt me. That I knew. But seeing him like this, scared me. I crossed the line.

Walking into the bathroom, I noticed all my toiletries were packed as well. The only thing on the counter was my travel toothbrush and toothpaste. I brushed my teeth and fixed my hair in record timing. When I walked back out, he wasn’t in the room nor were my bags. Diego and X were standing by the front door as I walked down the stairs.

“Hey, Mrs. D, you ready?” Not sure what to say, I nodded and followed them out the door.

Getting inside the sprinter, my throat became dry. Kellon sat watching me with so much disappointment. Taking a seat next to him, I reached up behind my ear to grab my hearing aid.
